Sometimes a watch starts with an idea. Sometimes it starts with a question.
 
I wonder what would happen if…
 
Bruce started with exactly that.
 
We had fallen in love with the texture originally developed for Aubergine, and naturally, curiosity took over. What would happen if we took that texture and pushed it in a completely different direction?
 
The obvious place to start was with the dark grey enamel used for Phantom Black. But enamel rarely behaves quite as simply as you would like it to. A texture and colour combination that works beautifully in one dial cannot necessarily just be transferred to another.
 
So we experimented.
Different enamel constructions were tried, including intermediate layers of different enamels, until eventually something clicked.
The result was Bruce.
 
At first glance, the dial appears dark grey. But move it through the light and something else begins to happen. A subtle fumé effect draws the eye towards the centre, where the texture begins to come alive and reveal a remarkably subtle blue hue. At some angles it is almost invisible. At others, the entire character of the dial changes.
 
It shares its origins with Aubergine and some of its colour DNA with Phantom Black, yet somehow looks like neither.
 
That is often the most interesting part of experimentation. You can start with ingredients you already know and end up somewhere you never quite expected.
 
At the time of writing, we cannot say if the watch will go into production, so for now Bruce is the only example of this particular experiment.

Bruce is a unique, experimental prototype.
As with all handmade grand feu enamel dials, subtle variations and imperfections are part of the character of the craft. As Bruce was created as an experimental prototype rather than a production model, some additional imperfections should be expected.
 
It should be appreciated for what it is: a unique result of experimentation, curiosity and the wonderfully unpredictable nature of enamel.
